  • TOPIC DESCRIPTION/LEARNING OBJECTIVES

The Four Commitments of a Winning Team (S*) by Mark Eaton 7/18 @ 9:30 AM

Michael Jordan once said “Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.” As HR Professionals, you not only contribute to your department with your individual skillset, but chances are; you use your unique expertise to collaborate with other individuals to support the vision of your company. Part of the way to accomplish this strategically is by implementing a coaching and communication plan that helps reinforce your organization’s core values. This presentation does just that.

Follow Mark as he takes you through his astonishing journey into the NBA and how he parlayed those skills into molding the successful entrepreneur he is today. He’s developed a program that will transform HR Professionals and their department into a high performance team. Your team will be empowered to be the change they want to see and by the time the program is over, each and every person will have made commitments and have strategies for achieving their most important goals.

    Learning Objectives:
    1. Determine which of the four personality types you and your team members are.
    2. Gain a greater understanding of the roles both you and your team members serve within each personality classification.
    3. Learn the most effective methods for communicating with others based on that individual’s personality style.
    4. Lastly, bring it all together by creating a coaching plan that will appeal to all personalities within your team and collectively/strategically work towards the overall vision specific to your organization.

Technology – The Modern Approach to HR Strategy (S*) by Ryan Kohler 7/18 @ 1 PM

There’s no question that technology has transformed the way companies conduct business. Gone are the days of limited access to information as we welcomed the Internet: an overnight sensation that brought with it an abundance of data accessible with the click of a mouse or the touch of a button. Piggybacking this surge of data is the need to manage it; and no department goes unaffected. Ryan will guide participants through the various technologies businesses use to create success and then he’ll outline technical tools that improve HR’s performance/efficiency and finally, how to align the two in order to add strategic value to HR professionals.

    HR Learning Objectives
    1. Provide a walk-through of web trends including Social Media, Analytics, and SEO.
    2. Understand the various HR Technology available including Hiring Software, Job Aggregators, Assessments, Onboarding, and Video Interviewing.
    3. Discover the importance of key business metrics and how to monitor change in order to increase efficiency/revenue.
    4. Learn how to use this data to create “Business Intelligence” and justify the use of HR Technology to add value to the overall business strategy.

Reducing Hiring Risk (G*) by John Howard 7/18 @ 11 AM

A guide to the bewildering process of selecting assessments for hiring: How to narrow the field, staying on firm legal ground, what the Department of Labor says, and how to make a choice that will work for your business; metrics, calculating ROI, and avoiding pitfalls. You'll take away a practical guide to the process of selection success.

    HR Learning Objectives:
    1. Understand what a selection tool is and the advantages of using them to assist with hiring the most suitable employee for your positions.
    2. Know how to protect yourself legally and what the standards are relative to different selection tools.
    3. Have a firm grasp on the different types of assessments available to you and which to avoid.
    4. Metrics – learn which are key to measure in the process and how they affect ROI.

Interviewing Efficiency – How to Get the Biggest Bang for Your Interview Buck (G*) by Ken Frei 7/18 @ 11 AM

Let’s face it; interviewing can be tough. Not only are interviews time consuming, but there’s a very limited amount of time and a narrowed access point of information to make a big decision that has the potential to effect both you and your organization for years to come. The fastest way to ensure interviewing success is to familiarize yourself with the right tools to improve both selection rate and peace of mind in the final stages for choosing a qualified candidate. Technology makes this process easier than ever before; you just have to know where to look. As a bona fide Internet Marketing and hiring expert, Ryan will help guide you through these online tools and help you design a customized interviewing plan that will save you both time and money.

    Learning Objectives:
    1. Learn how to avoid common interview practice mistakes by creating screening questions designed to target candidates that are qualified and have the right skill-set to be a worthy contender for your interview time.
    2. Understand the different tools available (tracking systems, video interviewing, assessments, etc) to aid you during the interview process and how these tools dramatically increase your chances of choosing a stellar employee versus relying on your “gut” to make a “blind” decision.
    3. Discover the importance of reporting and tracking to measure your results and develop a strategy for improving upon future interviews.
    4. Finally, discuss legality issues surrounding the interview process and how to properly use these tools in order to protect yourself as the Hirer.

Job Board Optimization – Improve the Quantity and Quality of Results from Job Postings (G*) by Ryan Kohler 7/18 @ 2:30 PM

In a 2011 survey, it was reported that an estimated 20.1% of hires were referred from job boards like Indeed.com, Careerbuilder.com, Monster.com, Simplyhired.com, etc. And with the ever-increasing impact of the web dominating more tasks every day, that number is expected to continue to climb. Chances are, you’ve already incorporated at least one of these job posting mediums into your hiring plan, but are you getting the results you want? You should be receiving an influx of applications from quality job seekers, not a measly handful of mediocre submissions. As an expert in Internet Marketing, Ryan knows what it takes to be successful when it comes to yielding results from the web and he’ll guide you through the trade secrets guaranteed to bump your job posting position and land some quality applicants.

    HR Learning Objectives:
    1. Understand how job seekers use job boards so you can develop an ad specific to the market you’re looking to target.
    2. Why keyword research is absolutely essential in creating your job ad to target a large number of quality job seekers.
    3. Location, location, location – focus on the location that your target market will most likely be searching for.
    4. Do your research – run sample searches and make the necessary adjustments to yield better results.

The Ins and Outs of Background Checks – What HR Needs to Know to be Compliant (G*) by Daniel Westel 7/18 @ 2:30 PM

It’s no secret that people have secrets – some of which may not gel with the type of employee environment necessary to enhance your organization’s vision. As an HR representative, you have the unique responsibility of balancing how to choose the right fit for each position while committing to compliance. This is a particularly daunting task if you aren’t familiar with the latest best practice trends. Incorporating a simple, yet effective background check plan is a great way to ease some of the stress associated with the unknowns surrounding your candidate so long as the process is efficient and meets the basic requirements to protect both you as the hirer and your company.
After this presentation, you’ll have gained knowledge in the following areas:

    HR Learning Objectives:
    1. Background check best practices which protect BOTH employers and employees.
    2. Help to mitigate an employer’s liability and loss.
    3. Assist HR professionals in developing and implementing an efficient background screening program that is compliant with Federal and State Law.
    4. Learn the latest trends associated with the following regulations/regulators: Identity development, court record searches, FCRA Compliance, Release Forms and Disclosures, EEOC Guidance for Background Checks and Adverse Action practices.
